Actspressions
Actspressions was started by an ordinary Singaporean girl with an ordinary life – turned into chaos when she was diagnosed with clinical depression. Dealing with suicidal thoughts, struggling with brokenness and battling this mental illness – it was a long and painful fight, but it was eventually overcome.
This battle was won only because of people who stood by her in the darkest times, the people who fought alongside. They did not perform miracles or do dramatic things; it was the small things they did that eventually brought healing and hope. After her recovery, Jolyn wanted to tell people that there is hope, there is freedom, there is healing and true joy. And so, Actspressions was born in 2012. Actspressions is a movement — a movement about doing small things with great love. Actspressions' belief is that nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something – and this the something we believe we can do.
We may not be able to do great things, but we can do small things with great love. Small Actspressions, but with tremendous love. 1 Corinthians 13 from the Bible says that “love never fails" – and indeed, it never does.
“ Actspressions was started during my recovery from the battle with clinical depression, and I hope that this brings the darkness of mental illness into the light, because as Fred Rogers puts it, anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.
When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary. ”
