Learning Journey with our Founder
Cheryl is a serial entrepreneur who started her first business at 22 and won her first entrepreneurship award at 25. The founder of The Nail Social and The Social Space, both social enterprises, has come a long way from her early days in the start-up scene. From crab shacks and nail salons to backpacker hostels, Cheryl had dipped her feet into businesses across many industries when a bad experience with an investor led her to rethink her own motivations for running a business. Cheryl has now dedicated herself to creating meaningful companies that inspire and drive social change in our community. The Nail Social was a commendation winner at the President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Awards in 2015, and Cheryl herself was named Cosmopolitan’s ‘Fun, Fearless Female’ of 2015 and was a honouree for Singapore Tatler’s Gen T List in 2019.
Daniel’s formative years were spent growing up greatly inspired by his mother’s role in women’s rehabilitation as a volunteer counselor with Changi Women’s Prison and Director of Turning Point women’s halfway house. Being married to a two-time social entrepreneur, Daniel has also been inspired to be a part of the social enterprise industry. Daniel’s stint as General Manager of Singapore Airlines in Bali further opened his eyes to the rich-poor disparity that exists, and he has leveraged on his commercial experience and innate ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds to build a commercially viable and sustainable social enterprise. Daniel's recent diagnosis of adult ADHD coupled with his close working relationship with various staff, caregivers and medical practitioners has also further motivated him to speak up on issues related to mental health. His efforts were recently recognized when he won the Spirit of Enterprise Award in 2022.
