MARYANN (F&B Intern, 2024)

Hihi, Im Maryann and working at The Social Space was a breath of fresh air following my stressful hotel internship. It was a warm and inviting setting, in which everyone was kind and eager to offer their expertise and experiences, provided for a genuinely unforgettable experience.
Unlike just executing obligations, I could tell that this employment meant more to many of them. Some of them genuinely felt like the job treated them like family, one they could depend on and lean on during challenging times.
In my experience, I could feel the love, concern, and camaraderie among my coworkers. They were always eager to teach, laugh, and encourage one another, resulting in supportive and positive environment.
I started as a café intern during my last semester of polytechnic. From the start, I liked The Social Space's idea of assisting the community by recruiting people with higher hurdles to work since they think that everyone deserves an opportunity to make a positive difference.
I have many fond memories of my time at The Social Space, and I am quite thankful for the chance to be welcomed as an intern there. They instilled in me principles and ideals that I will surely carry with me for my whole life.

I admit that before to my internship, I was pretty ignorant about other people's various backgrounds and experiences because I had lived in a privileged bubble where my privileges were deemed typical. However, after meeting and connecting with people from all walks of life, I saw my own ignorance and became committed to assisting those in need.
While I had intended to follow a typical career in the food and beverage industry, my experiences at The Social Space have motivated me to consider computer science instead.
I think that by combining my education and experience, I can improve workflows, capacities, and the overall quality of life for both consumers and employees in the food and beverage industry.
I truly believe that I gained considerably throughout my internship. Aside from honing my multitasking, critical thinking, and creativity abilities, I learnt how to lead by inspiring others.
I genuinely feel that this café is delivering more than simply coffee and food; they are also providing hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for people in need.
