President Halimah Yacob visits The Social Space!

Our founders, Daniel and Cheryl were delighted to have the opportunity to share with Mdm President about The Social Space’s mission of promoting a greater awareness for sustainability and more accessible conscious living, as well as our continued efforts to be socially inclusive.

Mdm President was taken on a mini tour of our humble little multi-concept space, while Daniel and Cheryl recounted the inspirations, motivations and challenges behind our cafe, retail and nail salon concepts, including the difficulties faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

While taking a peek into our food preparation area, Daniel explained to Mdm President that the decision to keep our cafe menu simple (yet incredibly tasty!) was intentional. He shared that lot of thought went into creating a range of healthy food that focused on wholesome ingredients and fresh flavours, and was simple to prepare without the need for complicated equipment, so that it would be easier for our staff with no prior F&B experience and with differing abilities to pick up skills in the kitchen.

Moving on to the retail area, Cheryl shared their purpose of creating a platform dedicated to showcasing a curated selection of high-quality products with a strong social or environmental impact. She highlighted four local social enterprise partners, namely Will & Well, SPD Artisan Collab, Co:Creation Workshop and Mei's Own, and shared more about the impact these brands have made on the community.

Daniel and Cheryl shared with Mdm President about The Social Space’s inclusive hiring practices, and introduced her to some very eager members of our team from both outlets. Mdm President spoke candidly with them about their experience working at The Social Space, as well as some of the skills they learnt on the job.

Mdm President was also invited to check out The Nail Social’s cosy little non-toxic nail salon, located just upstairs from The Social Space, where she also met some of our friendly manicurists and learnt more about our service offerings.

Before she took her leave, Mdm President commended The Social Space team for our efforts and thanked us for creating an inclusive and socially conscious space, and that left us with a smile on our face the rest of the day.
